Bessler's Wheel

Bessler’s wheel and the Orffyreus Code

The legend of Bessler’s wheel is slowly coming to the public’s attention, but there is still a very tiny minority of people who are even aware that he existed.  His full name was Johann Ernst Elias Bessler, but shortly after becoming known as the inventor of a perpetual motion machine, he adopted the pseudonym, Orffyreus.

Although most people familiar with the legend are aware of how this name was contrived, few know why he did it.  The name comes from using an ancient system of encoding words called ‘atbash’, invented by the ancient HebrewsPlaceholder Image as a means of disguising names they wished to conceal in their writings.  No one has suggested why Bessler used this cryptic device, he certainly had no desire to hide his name, as he was intent on selling the secret of his machine for a sum of money equivalent to over 2 million dollars in today’s world. In fact this pseudonym was a pointer to further clues hidden within the various pages of his publications.

Some of these clues have been deciphered and I believe it is only a matter of time before someone solves all the clues and reinvents Bessler’s wheel. So what do we know about the wheel?  Click on the legend button for more information.
